FPHS Spring 2025 Speaker Series: James Bullock

“Francisco Menendez and the Battle of Ft. Mose—June 26, 1740”
Francisco Menendez was co-founder of the first free black settlement in what is now the United States.
As a historical dramatist, James Bullock has had the honor of portraying Francisco Menendez at Fort Mose State Park. He has also done speaking engagements and reenactments for the National Park Service, City of St. Augustine, Rhodes Scholars, Florida National Guard, and Florida A & M. He is currently the writer and director for a production at the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum in St. Augustine.
