Sprague House Bed and Breakfast

Built in 1892 by James Morrow. The great freeze of 1895 destroyed northeast Florida’s citrus industry and drove the Morrow’s into bankruptcy. Katie Sprague, married to Crescent City’s first mayor, purchased the hotel, and continued to operate throughout the Golden Age of Tourism. Elaine Nord, stained-glass window artist, purchased it and created the front windows which tell a story of Crescent City. She sold it to a couple who ran it and provided their award-winning meals for 19 years. Most recently Amy and Jeff Haston purchased it. The building is among the most significant of the remaining commercial structures in Crescent City as the only surviving hotel of the golden era of tourism in Crescent City. It is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places as an individual property.
