This building was probably constructed soon after the property on which it originally sat was purchased by Lucy Gautier in 1908. It was located on a lot facing North Summit Street. Gautier lived at the residence throughout the historic period. In 1951, when Summit Street was widened as part of the improvement of U.S. Highway 17, the house was moved to its present location on North Main Street. It is believed that the house was moved straight back so that what is the front was originally the back of the house. It was purchased by the New Moon Masonic Lodge for use as a meeting hall. Recently, the property was acquired by the City of Crescent City. There has been much discussion about the fate of this important historic structure.
